These are the rules you must abide!

GENERAL RULES

Number of teams participating: 30 teams, the teams are divided into 6 groups, with 5 teams in each group, where you play round robin within the group.

The 4 best number 1 teams after the round robin games will go straight to the quarter finals. Teams ranked 5-12 are going to 1/8 final.
There will not be an overall ranking so if you are number 1 or 2 in your group you are guaranteed a place in the playoffs. The best ranked team ending as nr 3 in their group will also qualify,

Each game is played over 6 ends Every team is guaranteed 4 games Almost every foreign team and teams not based in Oslo are guaranteed a minimum of one game at Bygdøy.

3 points for winning the game - Tie - 2 points for a win with the "Roffe Method" 1 point losing on Roffe method ( we will explain the Roffe Method further down the page)

The team at the top of the scorecard plays with red stones. And plays their draw for the bottom first, If you need to measure during the game, the teams will do the measuring themselves.

If you run out of stones, and have no longer a chance to win the game, the game is over. Example: If one team leads 9-0 after 5 ends, The losing team is forced to forfeit. The game is lost and the last end is not played. The winning team, in good Broomstacking tradition, offers the losing team a round after the game!

Make sure to be ready minimum 15 minutes before the game is scheduled. There is annoneced heavy road work during the weekend so make sure you travel in time to the rinks.

WCF rules including no tick rule - meaning you cannot remove a centreline guard until after the 5th stone. Only WCF approved brooms and pads

Extra end - Special rule

If, after 6 ends the game is tied in the group games The Roffe Method will be used. This end is played with only four stones. The team that would have had the hammer in the extra end, gets to choose if they want to play stone 1 and 4, or stone 2 and 3. You play as usual with your team, you can choose who will throw the stones. If the end is blank the team without the hammer wins and is awarded two points, the loser is awarded one point. The Roffe method will only be used in the round robin stage.

Draw to the button competition

This is to decide who gets the hammer in the first end. Each team gets one practice stone and then a draw to the button. You play the practice stone away from the clubhouse the counting draw in opposite direction of the first end (towards the clubhouse) Teams choose their hand freely ( so both teams can draw the same side) The team at the top of the scorecard plays the first stone/draw. The teams decide among themselves who throws the stone. Do not remove the stone from play before the opposite team has "measured" the stone.

In the draw competition we count points, but for the hammer in the game the closest to the button wins, so make sure you agree. If no stone is in the house, or you can not agree on which draw is best, spin the stone to decide, but remember to write down the scores of the draw. The draws are scored from 0 to 5 points and must be written down on the scorecard.

*NB! * If it is not written down on the scorecard, or the scorecard is not delivered to the secretariat - both teams will get zero points. The draws will be the decider if teams have the same amount of points within the group games and for seeding into the playoffs.

0 Points if the stone is not in the house 1 point for biting the 12 foot 2 points for biting the 8 foot 3 points for biting the 4 foot 4 points for biting the 1 foot 5 points for covering the button

Runner up draw bonspiel

This is the third year we are awarding a trophy to the teams in the draw/runner up bonspiel which includes the teams ranked from 13-30 place.

There is also a small cash prize of 1000 NOK that needs to be spend at the bar on Saturday night. The trophy will be awarded during the dinner dance Saturday. If teams have the same amount of points from the draw competition - points from the groups will be a decider. If its still even - stone score difference will count.

The overall best drawing team from alle the 30 teams after the round robin will also win 1000 NOK that needs to be spended in the bar!

How are the teams ranked within groups after the round robin?

The teams with the most points (W-D-L) Head to head result (inside the group) - Draws (0-20 points) Stone score difference total score made vs score against

When comparing teams from different groups.

The teams with the most points (W-D-L) - The teams with the highest score in the draw competition (0-20 points) Stone score difference (total score made vs score against) if tied on draws.

The highest ranked team has the hammer in the playoffs except on Sunday. If the game ends as tie in the playoffs you play a extra end. In the final and bronze game teams have a 5 minute practice each before the game. before making a draw to the button to decide hammer. Team on top of the scorecard practice first and gets to decide which hand they play. - the other team will need to play the other hand.

How is the seeding done?

The teams are ranked according to known ranking from Curlingzone and results in national and regional leagues and by reputation/expectations. We have also made sure there are one or two Bygdøy teams in each group, and that as many of the overseas teams as possible are in different groups. We have also tried to make sure that travelling teams get to play at least one game at Bygdøy. There are a couple of exceptions for practical reasons. The times and groups may be subject to minor changes if necessary and deemed fair by the organising committee.

PRIZE MONEY

  1. place 10.000 NOK, 2.place 6000 NOK,- 3..place 4000 NOK,- Winner of the Peter M. Langes Trophy - runner up /draw bonspiel: 1000 NOK that must be used at the bar at the banquet. Winner of the draw tournament in general (all teams ranked) wins 1000 Nok to be used in the bar at the banquet.

Please observe the Bygdøy Broomstacking etiquette! The winning team buys the losing team a drink - this is important! If there is no time just after the game, then later when convenient. This is a social event. Be kind to everybody, Be a good winner and a good loser. This is not the World Cup. It's a social bonspiel where we celebrate the true spirit of curling!

NB! Our Schedule is quite tight, so make sure to be ready a minimum of 15 minutes ahead of the game scheduled. We would like to start the games as soon as possible if the sheet is free, the ice and the teams are ready. If a team is not in place on time, by their own mistake, they will lose the first end by two points. We will provide changing rooms at the Bygdøy Curling Rink ladies and gents for Friday and Saturday which will be locked and safe. Some might need/choose to change at the rink rather than the hotel for the dinner and dance Saturday!

Its unfortunally announced heavy roadwork nearby Snarøya the whole weekend so make sure you travel towards the rinks in good time before the games are scheduled!
